Importance of knowing
I believe it to be true that my behavior is governed not by what I know, but what I do not know or that I am consciously unaware of. The subconscious part of the mind plays a large role in our everyday lives and interactions with other humans around us. Gaining a better understanding of this individual subconscious, could only further enhance happiness, success, and harmony throughout my life. I have been consciously unaware of my true self for many years. Until most recently there was hardly an effort for me to accept the challenge of a genuine “self-journey”. Within the past several years I began to retrieve buried information and acknowledge its presence; rather than let it rot inside me. The result of doing this, is allowing me the knowledge to be present in not only my subconscious, but my conscious mind as well. This enables me to better understand why I behave the way I do, and it also gives me the power and control to change this behavior when needed. I never realized the importance in knowing myself, and how freeing it is to have an understanding of my behaviors and personality traits, and where those come from. The success of the self-journey depends fully on how bravely you face yourself. Knowing that I have denied the existence of certain parts of my past i now have raised questions and began to face who I am, who I have been and who I am going to be. I have succeeded in the first steps of my self-journey through the artwork I have been creating this year, recognizing not only the positive aspects of my life, but confronting the negative aspects as well. I am giving up the wall that for so many years I have been building between me and myself, and between me and those around me. I have began to discover my true self, and not what others perceive me to be, or what I believe I must be. Many of my responses and actions are triggered by emotions, which could lead to vulnerability to miscalculate judgment. Being emotional is important, and showing emotion is important, but I should not let it cast a shadow over my ability to reason.
